The PMLA special court has approved a 5-day Enforcement Directorate (ED) remand for former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren in connection to a money laundering case involving 8.46 acres of land in the Badgai area of Ranchi.
The court's decision came on February 2, following a hearing on February 1. The ED had sought a 10-day remand, but after a debate, the court reserved its decision, ultimately approving a shorter 5-day remand period starting immediately.
Hemant Soren was arrested on the night of January 31, 2024, and presented before the PMLA Special Judge Dinesh Rai on February 1. The ED, during the hearing that took place from 2:32 pm to 4:26 pm, requested the court for an extended remand to further interrogate the former Chief Minister. The court's decision to grant a 5-day remand sets the stage for intensive investigations into the alleged money laundering case.
